USRider and Xeo – A 20-Year Partnership in Scalability and Innovation

In 2004, the founder of USRider engaged Xeo to develop a web portal for their specialized roadside assistance service, catering to individuals who trailer horses across the United States. Over the past two decades, and through two acquisitions, Xeo has consistently demonstrated its ability to help companies scale and adapt to new challenges and opportunities.

The initial task was to create a member website that allowed prospects to join and renew their memberships. Initially, this data was stored in an Access database, created by another company, on USRider’s local network. As the company grew, Xeo replaced the Access database with a comprehensive ‘back-office’ web portal, enabling employees to manage the entire operation via a web browser. Xeo further enhanced the system by adding a real-time performance dashboard for managers and integrating the software with a key supplier, streamlining communication and improving customer service.

In 2011, the founder of USRider decided to sell the company to Active Interest Media. The contract with Xeo was structured as a ‘work for hire,’ meaning USRider owned the intellectual property—a critical factor in the acquisition negotiations.

The new owners retained Xeo to continue developing the platform, with a focus on growing membership through integrations with various interest groups and innovative marketing strategies. This partnership proved successful, ultimately leading to the sale of USRider to Equine Network.

Under the new ownership, Xeo’s role expanded significantly. The company enabled the service to be offered under multiple brands by connecting different instances of the member website to a unified database. This architecture ensured that members experienced the correct branding while allowing employees to efficiently manage operations through the same back-office portal initially designed.

Throughout two decades of collaboration, Xeo has implemented a wide range of enhancements. The most significant achievement is the 150-fold increase in membership, showcasing Xeo’s ability to deliver scalable software solutions that significantly enhance the company’s valuation.
